Lake access is offered to home owners, by 14 subdivisions, through 27 parks and beaches. Launch sites and the availability of pier space is unique in each subdivision. Separate Associations were formed in each subdivision to maintain parks, beaches, common grounds and roads. Annual fees range form approximately $50 to $250. A small portion of the fee supports the Master Property Owners Association, which maintains the lake and dam. The (MPOA) is made up of delegates from each subdivision association.

Wonder lake is fortunate to have a number of fine social, as well as service organizations. Including the Wonder Lake: Yacht Club, Lions Club, Kiwanis, Sportsman’s Club, Snowmobile Club, Water Ski Club & more.

Public schools serving the lake are Harrison Elementary, Valley View Elementary, Parkland Jr. High and McHenry West High School, on the East side of the lake. Greenwood Elementary, Northwood Jr. High and Woodstock High School on the west side of the lake. Nearby private schools are also available.

Wonder Lake is located in unincorporated McHenry County, with the exception of the Sunrise Ridge, White Oaks Bay, Hickory falls 1 & 2 and Wooded Shores subdivisions, which have incorporated, now called the Village of Wonder Lake. The lake is patrolled by the Village of Wonder Lake’s Police Department in order to promote water safety on the largest man-made lake in Il.

Churches located in Wonder Lake represent Catholic, Lutheran, and independent dominations. Other dominations are located within ten miles.

The lake has a local Airport and is serviced by RTA bus lines. Northwestern commuter train stations are located in nearby McHenry, Woodstock and Crystal Lake.

An excellent volunteer Fire Department has been established with stations on both the East and West sides of the lake. In addition, the Fire Department has one of the finest Paramedic and rescue squads. Hospitals are located in nearby McHenry and Woodstock.
